Pride - Part II
Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18
In this issue of The Prophetic Messenger, we will finish a message titled “Pride.”
In this issue of The Prophetic Messenger, we will finish a message titled “Pride.”
1. Pride Is Also Shame
Pride can also be expressed as shame. In Proverbs 11:2 it says “When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.” We showed one example in the first part of this message in looking at Peter when he denied Jesus. Jesus also spoke about this in Luke 9:26 where He said “For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father’s, and of the holy angels.”
2. Christians Must Be Humble
Christians must be humble. I like the scripture in the book of Isaiah 55:8 which says “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.” Notice what Jesus says in two of the gospels. In Luke 9:23-25 it says “23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. 24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. 25 For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?” In Matthew 23:12 it says “And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.” We see from this last scripture in Matthew that “whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased;” The word abase means to make low in position or more humble. Here are a few more scriptures that can help Christians see how God uses the humble. In James 4:6-10 it says “6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. 9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.” In Proverbs 29:23 it says “A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.” Also, in I Peter 5:5-7 it says “5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
3. Being Humble Is The Only Way To Heaven
We have said in part I of this message how pride is sin. Notice how Jesus shows how we must be humble to enter into the kingdom of heaven. In Matthew 18:3-4 it says “3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. 4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” Also, in Philippians 2:6-11 it says “6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
In closing, Jesus showed us that whosoever shall “humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”

Memory Verses
As Christians if we want to live in victory and if we want to be able to share the Word Of God with others we must know the Word of God ourselves. Let's see what the Bible says about this. "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee." Psalm 119:11. "If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you." John 15:7. "Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed." John 8:31. We encourage you to put the following scriptures in your heart: Malachi 4:2, Colossians 4:6, Hosea 6:3, I Thessalonians 1:3, Ecclesiastes 5:19, John 10:17, Matthew 10:32-33, Micah 4:12, Isaiah 9:5, John 1:1.
