I Will Bless Them That Bless Thee - Revisited - Part I

"And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed." Genesis 12:3

This article describes God's chosen people Israel and the land God has given them and the curse upon nations who come against Israel. It also looks at what God has in the future for Israel and the New Jerusalem. This article was written when President Bush was in office, but unfortunately, our former President Trump was doing some of the same things. The same is true for our current President Biden.

1. I Will Bless Them That Bless Thee

a) Israel: God's Chosen People
In Deuteronomy 7:6-10 it says "6 For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth. 7 The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people: 8 But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. 9 Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations; 10 And repayeth them that hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him that hateth him, he will repay him to his face."

These scriptures and others show how God chose the people Israel. In Psalm 105:6-15 it says "6 O ye seed of Abraham his servant, ye children of Jacob his chosen. 7 He is the LORD our God: his judgments are in all the earth. 8 He hath remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations. 9 Which covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath unto Isaac; 10 And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant: 11 Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance: 12 When they were but a few men in number; yea, very few, and strangers in it. 13 When they went from one nation to another, from one kingdom to another people; 14 He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes; 15 Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm."

In verse 11 we see that God gave Israel the land of Canaan and also protected them as it says in verses 14 and 15.

b) The Land God Gave To Abraham and Israel
Genesis 13:15-18 shows how God gave Abram or Abraham and his seed (which is Israel today) all the land that he could see with eyes. In Genesis 13:15-18 it says "15 For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever. 16 And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered. 17 Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee. 18 Then Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an altar unto the LORD."

In Genesis 15:18 God shows Abraham the land promised to him and his seed which is Israel. In Genesis 15:18 it says "In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:"

c) The Curse On Nations Who Come Against Israel
In Genesis 12:1-3 it says "1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will show thee: 2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: 3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed."

We see from this passage of scripture that God's blessing or curse can come on a nation depending on how it treats Israel.

In II Chronicles 6:6 it says "But I have chosen Jerusalem, that my name might be there; and have chosen David to be over my people Israel." We see Jerusalem is where God put His name.

In Psalm 122:1-6 it says "1 I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD. 2 Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem. 3 Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together: 4 Whither the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, unto the testimony of Israel, to give thanks unto the name of the LORD. 5 For there are set thrones of judgment, the thrones of the house of David. 6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee."

God's word tells us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. A newspaper article titled "Ex-General To Lead Mideast Talks" (Note 1) states:

"Israelis and Palestinians readied themselves Tuesday for talks with a new U.S. Mideast envoy, a tough retired Marine Corps general expected to press the two sides to stop 14 months of fighting.........Powell told reporters that Zinni would stay in the region to work on getting a cease-fire and then on implementing the report of an international commission headed by former U.S. Senator George Mitchell on how to resume peace talks."

Another newspaper article titled "U.S. Peace Plan Forms Palestine State" -Proposal Establishes Foothold in Jerusalem, Which Israel Opposes" (Note 2) states:

"The United States is putting together a Mideast peace plan that calls for establishing a Palestinian state with a foothold in Jerusalem, and Palestinians have won assurances that the ideas will be unveiled despite initial delays, a Palestinian Cabinet minister said Friday..........The Bush administration was to have unveiled the peace initiative in September before the U.N. General Assembly. However, that move was disrupted by Sept. 11 terror attacks on the United States.........Shaath said the Palestinians were told that President Bush remains committed to the ideas......According to Shaath, the U.S. plan would affirm the Palestinians' right to statehood, the principle of trading land for peace and U.N. resolutions 242 and 338 that call for an Israeli withdrawal from lands it occupied in the 1967 Mideast War."

We see from these articles the United States of America is bringing a curse upon itself for trying to divide the land of Israel.

Memory Verses

As Christians if we want to live in victory and if we want to be able to share the Word Of God with others we must know the Word of God ourselves. Let's see what the Bible says about this. "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee." Psalm 119:11. "If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you." John 15:7. "Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed." John 8:31. We encourage you to put the following scriptures in your heart: Ephesians 3:9, Exodus 9:9, Exodus 9:24, Ephesians 5:32, Ephesians 6:19, Exodus 10:13, Exodus 10:23, Colossians 4:3, Genesis 1:3, Genesis 1:10.
