Is America Worse Than Sodom? - Part II

7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. Jude 1:7

In this issue of The Prophetic Messenger, we will continue a message titled “Is America Worse Than Sodom?”

America Is Without Excuse

In the last Prophetic Messenger newsletter, we shared the message about the fall of the Roman Empire. At the time of its collapse, the state of the Roman Empire was worse than the state of Sodom. America is showing many of the same problems that the Roman Empire did before it fell. In Ecclesiastes 1:9 it says “ The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.”

In Romans 1:18-20 it says “18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; 19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shown it unto them. 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:”

The Great Awakening is the name given to a period in American history when America had two great revivals. In an article titled “Great Awakening” (Note 1) it states,

“The Great Awakening was a religious revival that impacted the English colonies in America during the 1730s and 1740s. The movement came at a time when the idea of secular rationalism was being emphasized, and passion for religion had grown stale. Christian leaders often traveled from town to town, preaching about the gospel, emphasizing salvation from sins and promoting enthusiasm for Christianity. The result was a renewed dedication toward religion. Many historians believe the Great Awakening had a lasting impact on various Christian denominations and American culture at large . . . . The Great Awakening brought various philosophies, ideas and doctrines to the forefront of Christian faith.
Some of the major themes included:
• All people are born sinners
• Sin without salvation will send a person to hell
• All people can be saved if they confess their sins to God, seek forgiveness and accept God’s grace
• All people can have a direct and emotional connection with God
• Religion shouldn’t be formal and institutionalized, but rather casual and personal . . . .

In the 1790s, another religious revival, which became known as the Second Great Awakening, began in New England. This movement is typically regarded as less emotionally charged than the First Great Awakening. It led to the founding of several colleges, seminaries and mission societies. “

Also, in another article titled “How Christians Started the Ivy League” (Note 2) it states,

“Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Dartmouth – all owe their origins to the gospel. Probably no segment of American society has turned out a greater number of illustrious graduates than New England’s Ivy League. Labels like Harvard, Yale, Princeton, still carry their own mystique and a certain aura of elitism and prestige. Yet perhaps it would surprise most to learn that almost every Ivy League school was established primarily to train ministers of the gospel – and to evangelize the Atlantic seaboard.”

In closing, we see from these two powerful articles about our rich history of the Christians message not only for the Americans but around the world that we are as it says in Romans 1:20b “so that they are without excuse:”
We will continue to share what the apostle Paul said to the Romans and show how it relates to the state of America.

Memory Verses

As Christians if we want to live in victory and if we want to be able to share the Word Of God with others we must know the Word of God ourselves. Let's see what the Bible says about this. "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee." Psalm 119:11. "If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you." John 15:7. "Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed." John 8:31. We encourage you to put the following scriptures in your heart: Proverbs 12:22, Revelation 3:2, Exodus 13:22, Revelation 17:13, Exodus 20:12, Acts 20:10, Psalm 37:4, Luke 24:8, Isaiah 6:2, II Kings 4:14. Use only the Old King James version of the Holy Bible. (If you have any questions about this please see the book New Age Bible Versions, by G.A. Riplinger ©1993, ISBN 0-9635845-0-2.)
